What is now known as the Peace Sign was originally designed in 1958 as the logo for Britai''s Coalition for Nuclear Disarmament (CND). Made from a blending of the semaphores for N (flags held at 4 and 8 o'clock) and D (flags held at 12 and 6 o'clock), it migrated to the US in the 60's and gained a broader definition as a symbol of peace. It has become one of the most widely known symbols in the world.
